Facebook and Twitter have held talks with major US broadcasters over rights to stream live television on their social networking platforms, The New York Post reported.
Facebook has notably approached NFL to secure football content and Twitter has told broadcasters it can deliver a younger audience, the paper said without naming its sources.
Facebook, which has launched a web and mobile based video product called Facebook live over the past year, has discussed the possibility of creating a bundle of channels to stream live, the paper said.
The company’s CEO said in February that video will soon account for the vast majority of content consumed online.
NFL was reported in February to be in talks over streaming rights for its new Thursday Night Football product with Apple, Amazon, Yahoo!, Verizon Communications and AT&T as well as Facebook.
