Facebook Messenger is getting revamped, and now has a new Home section in order to make chatting an easier experience on the app.
Facebook confirmed the changes in its newsroom blogpost, which reads, “Up until now, most inbox experiences haven’t kept up with the new ways people connect. So, we’ve been thinking about how we can make it simpler and easier to find what you want to start a conversation.”
The new Home tab will show a user’s “few most recent messages at the top,” followed by a new Favourites section, which highlights people you message most frequently, and birthdays tab, which will show upcoming birthdays for friends. There’s also an Active Now section to see which friends are online.
Facebook recently introduced a new feature on Messenger, wherein users can receive and send SMS messages on Android via the app itself. Integration with Facebook Messenger also promises a richer SMS experience such as the ability to send voice-clips, stickers, etc. The update has been rolled out to most countries.
Facebook Messenger has over 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store alone, and given the kind of focus messaging as a whole is seeing from most big companies, don’t be surprised if more new features are launched for the app soon.
